THE CABIN
The Arch -- How the timeless architectural form is back on trend.
I do not know much about the hotel that we would like to stay in because my wife has already arranged it all for us as we want to have a break from the ‘nutsy-ness’ of the capital city of Jakarta, and Bandung will be an excellent place to cherish our precious time. “Well, this is a great place to stay as we are surrounded by nature, and the weather is so refreshing”, I say to my wife. Ms. receptionist continued, “Check-out is tomorrow at noon; you’ll have your breakfast at our restaurant; it will be ready from 7 am until 9 am”, as she gestured, asking a guy to direct us into the room.
Glancing into the lounge and restaurant as we passed the rooftop floor of the main building, we noticed several arches and shapes placed on the details of the restaurant design. The vibes liven up with a unique colour palette that gives us the sense that we walk onto the set of a film. I bet we will have a marvellous experience with dinner and breakfast here then. As we dragged our suitcase through the corridor, we passed another guest, a young family busy with the key card scanning at the door, which echoed the sound of the typical unlocked door. This hotel is told with a concept and plot as fun and exciting as the strike in the visual elements. I am interested to know more about what is inside these seven rooms in another chance, I am telling my wife.
Several arches are visible at the end of the corridor. Each arch reveals a room with an extraordinary design: the wood shingle roof where emphasises the iconic arch shape building, the white colour door which is a contrasts with the corrugated metal at the front facade, and the brass/gold detail at the doorway gives us a sumptuous welcome. As we come inside, the arch shape speaks for the interior itself; it serves a space with a warm and intimate feeling through the materials, which are dominated by wood. The timeless architectural form seems back to the trend.
We put our suitcases and bags in the wardrobe, which has a feature that brings a unique connection between the bathroom and the bed. White tiles clad the bathroom, complemented by a rustic copper lavatory and faucet. The bathtub near the balcony area hypnotises my wife -- perhaps it will lift her mood by laying in heated-bubbly water with a view and fresh hill air, enveloping her in a peaceful bubble of solitude; the forgotten introvert revels in it.
Her new happy place.
