Hok Chui is a dim sum restaurant set within a Dutch colonial-era house in Bandung. The design preserves the building’s heritage character while weaving in Chinese decorative elements, vintage furniture, and a warm domestic atmosphere that feels like visiting an acquaintance’s home.

Nestled within the historic embrace of a Dutch colonial-era house, Hok Chui emerges as an exquisite dim sum haven, where the charm of the past converges seamlessly with present-day allure. Embarking on a visionary journey, we conceived a design narrative intertwined with the brand's imaginative tale. Here, the homeowner transforms into the storyteller of an exquisite dim sum haven, bringing to life a culinary saga within the walls of the residence. Hence, the challenge lay in crafting a design that invited individuals to experience a sense of familiarity akin to visiting an acquaintance's house.

Our endeavour aimed to safeguard the inherent heritage essence of the building while harmonising with the brand narrative. The design integrates with the distinctive Dutch-colonial architectural features, accentuating the engaging yellow-painted main door and installing wall panelling enriched with Chinese decorative elements and hues.

Refurbished vintage stools and tables were selected to support the activities within the space. As part of the transformation, the tabletop was replaced with a green-bluish laminate material that fuses with wood, imbuing the space with vibrancy and distinctive character.
