DARJEELING
In response to the design brief, we endeavoured to infuse the space with a profound sense of familial warmth and domesticity. The primary objective centred around redefining its purpose to serve as a primary function for family gatherings, necessitating the incorporation of a generously proportioned table and seating ensemble to accommodate a group of family members comfortably. Its unique response to the existing context is intentionally idiosyncratic, sometimes evoking a sense of being out of place—imbued with a hyper-nostalgic.
Influenced by the iconic Art Deco movement of the 1920s, Bandung epitomised architectural brilliance. The fusion of Modern and Art Deco styles adorns the cityscape, with abundant architectural gems lining the historic Jalan Braga and Jalan Asia Afrika. Our objective was to evoke a nostalgic ambience by incorporating design elements that harmonise modern and Art Deco styles. The design concept encapsulated the essence of the 1950s, a pivotal era marked by the architectural movement known as "The Mid-Century Modern." The space serves as a canvas for vibrant colours and a synthesis of organic shapes, seamlessly marrying traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques. Beyond visual aesthetics, the design aims to convey a profound message rooted in nostalgia, celebrating both the quality of bygone eras and a departure from conventional design norms. Ultimately, the envisioned space becomes a haven for familial gatherings, offering a unique opportunity to reconnect in an inviting and warm atmosphere.
