Nestled within the fabric of Bandung's long-established housing blocks, AD House stands as a testament to the enduring allure of residential architecture in the city that was initially constructed around the 1990s. This renovation project aimed to breathe new life into its time-worn spaces while preserving its unassuming character. Our task was straightforward: to infuse the interiors with a sense of revitalisation, all while paying homage to the humble roots of the house. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding neighbourhood and its rich tapestry of design influences, our approach centred on the fusion of classic design elements with a contemporary aesthetic, resulting in a harmonious blend of familiarity and modernity.

The architectural features of the former AD House are characterised by a blend of contemporary elements in the type of housing blocks in the 1990s. This project includes preserving existing structural elements while introducing modern interventions to enhance functionality and aesthetics. The interior design approach for the AD House prioritised functionality, comfort, and visual continuity throughout the living spaces. A neutral-earthy colour palette was chosen to complement the natural materials used in the interior and architecture, creating a cohesive and serene atmosphere. The layout and spatial organisation were carefully considered to optimise flow and usability, emphasising creating a versatile kitchen and pantry, and a comfortable master bedroom adapted to the needs of the occupants.

Unique design elements, such as custom-built furniture pieces with rounded detail in the kitchen and pantry area, integrated storage solutions in the wardrobe, and the use of natural-textured colour material, were incorporated to add personality and character to the interiors. Attention to detail was paramount, with an emphasis on craftsmanship and quality finishes that reflect the client's discerning taste and lifestyle.

The AD House seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings through thoughtful design and landscaping strategies. The courtyards and gardens facing the dining area serve as extensions of the interior, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. The door and window in this area foster a strong connection to nature, providing opportunities for relaxation, contemplation, and outdoor recreation for the occupants.

The AD House has become a cherished retreat for the client, offering a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of urban life while fostering a strong sense of connection to the surrounding community and natural environment. The collaborative design process ensured that the client's vision and preferences were carefully considered and incorporated into the final design, resulting in a personalised and tailored home that reflects their lifestyle and values.
